what's on the itinerary - yes, alexej & the illogical conceits art crit journal = back!
an overdue update and what's to come in the VERY near future!!
Hey, hey, beautiful humans! Alexej speaking! Alexej speaking! Alexej speaking!
A few long-overdue housekeeping items and some updates:
First, the URL for this blog on Substack (alexej.substack.com) still works, but you may notice it redirects to artcritjournal.net, which is, for now, the official domain for the journal; that may change, or it may not change, or it may be reverted to the original Substack URL, but TBD.
Also, I’ve begun adding recommended Substacks, so if I haven’t gotten to yours yet, please be patient. Some include explorations of ethics and the human utilization of AI from a tech-philosopher with an interesting approach and background; others from fellow poets, and others from a sociologist and historian, focused on clinical sociology, journalism, sociological theory, and revolutionary praxis. I encourage you to look them over. They are all brilliant.
I know I’ve been absent for a long time, so please accept my apologies, as life has been rather intense the last year or two, with my dad passing away abruptly, and over 14,000 miles flown all over the US and northern Europe and back and forth and back and forth, etc - That said, I have several new posts coming in VERY, VERY short order, including posts about photographer Dmitri Kasterine (we watched a movie together), an Alexej facilitated AI-critique of mainstream critics paradoxical condescension toward the “outsider” art canon (amusingly accurate), a review of the new Led Zeppelin documentary, as well as an analysis of a 2025 Bob Dylan concert I attended in New York, and (possibly) an interview with the conceptual genius Jasa Mrevlje Pollak, who represented Slovenia at the Venice Biennale (la Biennale di Venezia) one of the world’s foremost and prolific contemporary artists.
Stay tuned, and thank you again for making my work extra meaningful :)
I also wanted to let my readers know that if you are an artist, writer, or academic (of any type that can be tied to creativity/art), a curator, an arts professional, or a critic, please feel free to reach out directly if you’d like to be interviewed for inclusion in the journal. We can make it happen!
My official work e-mail is: theartistalexej@gmail.com
Please put “art crit tip” or “journal submission” in the subject line
P.S.
I started a new blog, which may be of interest (it’s still in its infancy). It details my struggles with sedative/hypnotic use disorder and addiction, and getting clean, going back to age 19 (now I am 36, almost 37), and getting off of those substances safely, while detailing in real time. It requires some major updates, but bear with me, the wheels are slowly regaining momentum. The past year or two has been a real “test” of sorts. I also just underwent surgery, learning to manage my eccentricities and extravagances better, finishing up freelance work for KC Studio, Mad in America, and Blogger, while still mourning the loss of my father, caring for my mother, my brothers, and, for now, back on the East Coast. I am anticipating a productive year ahead. I also hope to make it to Chicago in a few months!
The URL for the other blog is: www.whentherainstops.org

Love y’all, and expect more and more sooner rather than (just) later,
Peace & Blessings,
